Explore Whisky Your Way

Explore Whisky Your Way

There are probably more whiskies in the world than any of us could work through in a lifetime. Scotland alone has enough to keep you busy for years, and that is before Ireland, Japan, America, India and other nations started making their beautiful whiskies.

For us, the question is never which whisky is best. The question is, which one (or ones) do you like? And for what occasion?

The freedom to explore whisky your way is a founding principle of Spey Soda

You have probably guessed by now that we are big whisky fans, and we very much enjoy the traditional rituals around the spirit.

However, the more we fell in love with the whisky highball, the more we believed exploring whisky your way was an important sentiment to encourage people to adopt.

The soda in any whisky highball acts as a supportive partner. Joining the whisky for good times in the glass, but never dominating or drowning out the main event.

At Spey Soda we are not here to hand you a rulebook. We are here to hand you a starting point, and hopefully to encourage and empower you to get exploring our favourite spirit in all its magic.

Start here

The whisky highball serve could not be easier.

Tall glass. Fill with lots of ice. One part whisky. Three parts Spey Soda of choice. Add a garnish if you're feeling fancy. Stir. Sip. Enjoy with company.

That's the whole method. It takes about fifteen seconds, and there's nothing to get wrong.

Then start moving

We have blended each of our sodas with a particular whisky style in mind. But our number one rule will always be that there are no rules.

We think each of our sodas works particularly well with certain styles of whisky, but we would love to see how they land with you, and what whisky and Spey Soda pairings you enjoy.

If you want a nudge to get you started, here are our starter notes on each of our flavours.

Pure & Natural is the clean slate. It lets whatever is in your glass do all the talking, which makes it the one to reach for when you have a whisky you want to hear loud and clear.

Grapefruit & Gorse brings brightness and a little bite. Good company for the lighter, fresher end of the shelf.

Apple & Heather leans towards orchard sweetness and works happily alongside softer, rounder whiskies. Dare we say it, some of the Speyside greats taste great with an A&H!

Ginger & Honey carries warmth and spice, so it holds its own against the bolder, smokier bottles that can overwhelm a gentler mixer.

But remember, that is only our view. Play around with them and find your ideal pairing. Go wild and pour Ginger & Honey over something delicate and see what happens. Nobody is marking this.

Spey Soda is whisky's mixer, and each of our sodas is blended with balance at its core.

The exploring and the whisky highball adventures are over to you. We would love to hear what you are enjoying. Explore and share on our socials at @speysoda.

Explore whisky your way. Life's short. Mix well.
